When Do I Get Paid from BeatStars Publishing?

BeatStars Publishing partnered with Sony Music Publishing to administer publishing royalties for our members. Sony Music Publishing has two semi-annual collection periods.

• Collection Period 1: January 1st through June 30th; distributed on October 1 of the same year.
  • Sony Music Publishing automatically distributes royalty balances from this time period into the BeatStars Wallet on October 1st of the same year.

• Collection Period 2: July 1st through December 31st; distributed April 1 of the next year.
  • Sony Music Publishing automatically distributes royalty balances from this time period into the BeatStars Wallet on April 1st of the next year.

If you don’t want to wait until your royalty balance is automatically distributed from Sony Music Publishing into your BeatStars Wallet, you can take advantage of Sony SCORE’s Cash Out capability.

Cash Out allows you to request some or all of your current royalty balance to be paid immediately, instead of having to wait until the next semi-annual distribution.

• Keep in mind: Cash Out is subject to certain limitations: You need to have a royalty balance of at least $100, the money must be cleared/accounted for by Sony, and it is not available during the months of February, March, August, and September.
  • Why is it not available during February, March, August, and September? Sony shuts down Cash Out during these times because of internal accounting to prepare for the semi-annual payments.
  • What happens if I choose to cash out my money but there’s still money remaining in my account? If there is money left in your account after cashing out, it likely has not been accounted for during the time period listed above.

If all of your registration information is correct – meaning you have accurate legal names, splits, and song titles – it will take around six months for royalties to start to generate. In some cases, it could be sooner or it could take longer.

You will not see all of your royalties reflected on your first statement. As time goes on (and depending on ownership splits and the popularity of the song), more royalties will accumulate. Around the 18-month threshold is typically when we see the majority of our members earning the bulk of their money. ​​Again, in some cases, it could be sooner or it could take longer. Please remember, every song and registration process has its own journey and will generate revenue differently.
