Co-Pub, Admin & BeatStars Publishing Deals

In most cases, if a publishing company likes the songs that you have written or produced, they will sign you to one of the two deals below: 

Co-Publishing Deal (Co-Pub Deal) 

In this deal structure, you usually will give up 50% ownership of your music, plus the deal terms and retention periods are typically longer than an admin deal.

In exchange, the creator may receive: 

• An advance payment when they sign 
• Creative services including:
  • Placement opportunities
  • Invitations to writing camps
  • Getting your music synced placed in a commercial, movie, or TV show

Administration Deal (Admin Deal)

In these deals, you retain ownership of your music and only pay a small percentage (for example 80/20 split in favor of the songwriter) of your royalties to the publishing company as their payment. Most of the time, advances do not come with admin deals. 

In exchange, the creator may receive: 

• Copyright registration
• Royalty collection 
• Accounting and reporting
• Catalog management
• Licensing services

BeatStars Publishing Deal

BeatStars is one of the only platforms that offers its members an in-house publishing service. We operate on admin terms, meaning you keep 100% ownership of your music. Our deal is only one year, and is an 80/20 split in your favor.

• Access to the Creator Rights Agency (CRA) for legal assistance
• Only for BeatStars Publishing members with Professional memberships
• Assistance with copyright registration
• Direct access to our publishing support team that works closely with Sony Music Publishing
