Question of the Week:

What three forms of compensation is a producer entitled to when they sign a producer agreement?

*See answer below

Celebrating Milestones: Notable Projects and Milestones at BeatStars Creator Rights Agency

Here at BeatStars Creator Rights Agency, we take pride in our commitment to empowering music creators and protecting their rights. Over the years, we've had the privilege of working on several notable projects that have made a significant impact on the music industry and the lives of our community members.

Marian worked to clear The Spark by Kabin Crew, a #1 global track on Spotify’s viral charts:

Marian, one of our summer interns, recently had the opportunity to negotiate on behalf of our CRA member, Irish producer PapaPedro. A promising opportunity arose when the Kabin Crew, a young rap collective from Ireland, discovered PapaPedro’s drum and bass beat online. Upon reaching out to PapaPedro to formalize an agreement, he enlisted the services of the CRA to secure the best possible terms. Marian worked closely with the Kabin Crew to finalize an agreement on “The Spark,” a tremendously popular viral hit, to ensure that PapaPedro was justly compensated for his contribution to the hit song.

Connor, working to clear KXVI’s catalog featuring over 1,000,000,000 combined streams:

Connor, a summer intern, has been working on a significant project for one of our largest producers, KXVI. Despite having several contracts in place for his work, the next hurdle for producers like KXVI is to actually get paid. These hurdles can be as innocent as learning how to access compensation through the portals of different labels, or as contentious as tracking down the artists and getting them to abide by the terms of the contract. Connor’s support with clearing KXVI’s expansive catalog has allowed KXVI to continue dedicating his undivided attention to producing music while staying worry-free about receiving fair compensation for the work he has already released.

Irfan closed a deal for a major Bollywood song:

Irfan, BeatStars’ Legal Counsel, worked on behalf of BeatStars Publishing member Rebbel Beats to clear the non-exclusive use of his beat on a major Bollywood song. The beat had previously been purchased from Rebbel under a limited license. After the song had surpassed the streaming limits, Irfan engaged with representation for a major Bollywood music producer to negotiate a deal that included a significant license fee and a percentage of publishing royalties. This deal, in many ways, is a first of its kind and BeatStars is excited to continue delivering for its members in music industries across the globe.

Kyle has been super focused on growing the CRA into the largest collective of Producers and Creators in the world.

Since March 27, 2024 we have seen over 600+ producers join the Creator Rights Agency (the “CRA”). They have collectively submitted uncleared tracks with more than 3,692,465,113 on Spotify and YouTube alone. Never in the music industry has anyone stood up for producers the way that we are.  We will not stop protecting, empowering, and serving our creators!

Thank you for being part of our community,

The BeatStars CRA Team

Answer to Question of the Week:

Producers are entitled to (1) a fee, (2) a master royalty (which includes SoundExchange Royalties), and (3) music publishing. These are the key things that help with negotiating a strong producer agreement.
